New Brush Fun

Downloaded some new digital paint brushes from Chris Wahl, and decided to play around with the brushes. It was a fast sorta thing, so nothing spectacular. Just abstract stuff. Trying to warm up some inspiration into art land again.

November Art Projects

More art projects from my Art: Design & Color class, and Photoshop class. First two are the most recent: The Lion King one is a movie poster I created and painted for my Design and Color class. The second is for my Photoshop class where we had to create a magazine cover. Mine has my dog, Prissy (R.I.P little lady), as the model and a photograph I took of Torrey Pines State Beach in the background. The third one was a project for my Design & Color class by, well obviously painting many tiny dots to create the image. And lastly... a picture of me on the left side, and on the right, a warped picture of myself that I drew. Fun! This semester blew by so fast.

Happy Thanksgiving!

My First Painted Pair of Shoes!

I got to paint my first pair of shoes. I grabbed a cheapo $5 pair of white canvas shoes from Walmart and didn't know what to do with them for about two weeks. Finally, I just went for it. I'm pretty happy with how they turned out, but I need to tape them up better so I don't get paint on the edges, and also not leave the tape on like Dan said because otherwise it leaves a sticky residue over time. Looks like I'll be needing to buy Goof Off. Oh, and add to the list: black laces. I used the black laces on my running shoes because I was too impatient and wanted to see how they'd look RIGHT away, but they're way too big. ;)

Sharp Edges

I got to try out some spray paint yesterday for the first time, and it was a lot of fun. I must add that I was trying to make the spray paint drip on the top, but it didn't go as well (at all) and I felt I was just wasting the paint. End results in my opinion: looks like the painting has hair. Haha. Oh well, it was fun! :) I want to start designing and cutting out my own stencils, then just put whatever on there. Need to buy my own colors as well since Dan only had those three.

Halloween Pumpkin Carving Fun

After over 15 years give or take, I finally got to carve myself a pumpkin for Halloween. Every year I would think to myself that I'd need to do this... but never got around to actually DOING it. So this year, my boyfriend Dan, friend Shane and I decided to get up off our bums and drive to Bates Nut Farm to grab ourselves some fresh pumpkins. I was also able to snag some Pumpkin Butter which is absolutely DELICIOUS!!! Every spoonful is seriously like eating pumpkin pie.

Anyhow, we got our pumpkins I would guess about two weeks ago? And finally we decided to carve them. I, unfortunately, thought it would be a FANTASTIC idea to carve a side portrait of Dan's and my beloved bearded dragon... due to the fact that I had plopped him on top of my pumpkin and he just stood there looking like godzilla on his throne. Who wouldn't be inspired by that? Well, it turned into a mental chaotic disaster since I only had steak knives, a cheap arse pumpkin carving tool which later on broke, and Dan's razor tool. And not only that, but his scales would have taken forever to carve.

Since Dan is able to spit out artwork like no other, I had to give my pumpkin carving a rest for a day or so. Finally this afternoon, I decided to just go for it and turn it into some random...thing. It was a little annoying because I was forced to use my bearded dragon's one eye and his ear as two eyes, but it was also fun to create something out of a failed attempt. So I just carved whatever, wherever, even if it didn't make sense. I almost wish I had bought a few more pumpkins because carving it was very therapeutic for me. It also got me into the holiday spirit. I hope this motivation actually gets me inspired to put effort into a costume for this year......

And.... THE FINISHED PRODUCT!!! Dan's crazy decked out pumpkin is on the left, while mine is on the right. I'm very satisfied.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
